Decorah girls basketball team is now 9-5 after splitting two games over the weekend

The Decorah Viking girls basketball team won a game Friday night in New Hampton, but lost a game at home Saturday night against Dyersville Beckman to run its record on the season to 9 wins and 5 losses.
The game at New Hampton was a low-scoring match. New Hampton had an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Vikings came roaring back to outscore the Chickasaws, 15-4, in the second quarter to take a 22-12 lead.
In the second half, the Vikings widened their lead. Decorah was up 35-15 at the end of the third quarter. The Vikings got outscored 9-4 in the fourth quarter, but held on to take the 39-26 victory.
Bryar Duwe led the Vikings with 10 points, while Abigail Milburn had 9 points.
On Saturday, the Vikings got good preparation for the type of team they will face in regional play, going up against Dyersville Beckman. Decorah trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, 27-22 at halftime, 39-34 at the end of the third quarter and 49-39 when the buzzer sounded.
Emma Neirengarten led the Vikings with 14 points, while Bryar Duwe added 13 points, but only two other Vikings made points.
"We need games like this so we understand the importance of maintaining focus and engagement with each possession," said head coach Shannon Quandahl.
The Vikings will host Charles City on Tuesday night, kicking off the final stretch of the regular season, with three out of the five remaining games at home.
