The Decorah Viking boys basketball team had an eventful night at their home game on Friday against Waverly-Shell Rock. The Vikings brought home their eighth conference win, besting W-SR 46-36.

The first period was a steady back and forth with baskets made on both sides, ending the first eight minutes in a tie (9-9). In the second period, that energy was sustained by the Vikings, which led to them taking the lead and ending the first half 23-16. Halftime did not slow the Vikings' momentum as they increased their lead with an aggressive offense and their hustle on the court.

The third period ended with Decorah ahead 35 to 24. The final leg of the match was when tensions were highest. Waverly-Shell Rock started to close the gap on the scoreboard in the final stretch. With two minutes left, it was still anyone's game. However, Decorah turned back the GoHawks' charge and closed the night with a 10-point victory at 46-36.

Head Coach Jonathan Carlson had this to say about the team, "We were pleased with our guys' composure the entire night. Our energy on the defensive end was great. Very proud of our guys and looking forward to our continued improvement."

Charles Robinson led the team with 15 points, followed by Briggs Duwe with 10 points.

The Decorah boys basketball team will be playing against Center Point-Urbana at the Center Point-Urbana High School Saturday night.
