Northeast Iowa wrestling was highlighted Thursday night at a meet between the Decorah Vikings and Charles City Comets in Decorah. The two teams battled back and forth before the last two Comet wrestlers gave Charles City a 39-34 road victory.

The Vikings trailed after the first five weight classes.  Decorah's Kollin Henry earned points at 106 pounds through a Charles City forfeit, but the Comets won the 113 pound, 120 pound, 126 pound and 132 pound weight classes.

Then the Vikings came roaring back.  Collin Holm won at 138 pounds with a fall at 5:17; Austin Wilkins at 145 pounds took a 7-1 decision; Jackson Rolfs at 152 pounds took a 5-3 decision; Garrett Lovstuen won by fall at 1:24 at 160 pounds; and Kennan Tyler won when his opponent dropped out due to injury.

The streak did not continue, however, as Charles City took three out of the four remaining weight categories.  Charles City's Caden Collins won by fall at 182 pounds.  Decorah's Nate Rolfs at 195 pounds took a major decision by a score of 12-2, but Charles City's Tino Tamayo at 220 pounds and Chase Crooks at 285 pounds took their matches, giving the Comets the victory.

The Viking boys wrestling team's next meet will be the Flanagan Invitational at Crestwood High School, starting at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.  The Viking girls wrestling team's next meet will be against Waverly-Shell rock on January 14th.
