The Decorah Viking boys swim team had fun Tuesday at Vinton, competing with new team lineups for the meet.
Head coach Laura Storlie called the lineup an experiment and said she used the meet to work on specific things, such as wall touches. The experiment was successful, as the Vikings returned home with a 53-40 victory.
The meet started with a victory by the 160 yard medley relay team of Drew Chamberlain, Isaac Knaack, Gus Grimstad and Ryan Lubahn, finishing with a time of 1:24.45. Grimstad and sophomore Gareth Sweet then finished first and second in the 160 yard individual medley. In the 100 yard butterfly, it was Grimstad and freshman Simon Kutz finishing first and second. Drew Chamberlain and freshman Dominic Bigalk finished first and second in the 500 yard freestyle.
Vinton-Shellsburg then took first place in the remaining four events, but Decorah still came away with the victory.
Decorah will next compete at Waterloo on Saturday.
