Turkey Valley's Ali Hoffert scored 24 points Thursday night, while Decorah's Bryar Duwe had 22 points as the Vikings edged the Trojans by one point, taking a 47-46 victory in Jackson Junction.

Decorah led by six points at the end of the first quarter, but Turkey Valley came back to trail by just two points, 24-22, at halftime, then went ahead by five points by the end of the third quarter, leading 37-32.

"We need to be in close competitive games like tonight, so we can learn the importance of each possession, understand the concept of focus and the amount of grit a team needs to be successful," said head coach Shannon Quandahl following the game.

The Vikings responded just how their coach wanted them to respond, shutting down Turkey Valley when it reached 44 points and scoring the next six points to take a 45-44 lead on their way to the 47-46 victory.

Besides Duwe's 22 points, Decorah's Emma Nierengarten added 8 points and Yazmeen Whitsitt added seven points.  Said Quandahl, "There were pockets of good things from each player, but Bryar Duwe had an outstanding game."

Decorah will play at Prairie Du Chien Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup, before heading into the winter recess.
