Decorah girls swimming team competes in last regular season meet before playoffs

The Decorah Viking girls swimming and diving team got in one last meet Thursday night before the start of their postseason in November.
The Vikings came away with a 120-66 victory of Waterloo at the varsity level and a 140-13 victory over Waterloo at the junior varsity level.
The Vikings had 8 first place finishes and 8 second place finishes and diver Brinley Krivacheck set a school record in the diving competition.
In relay events, Margaret Rhodes, Mia Semdsrud, Emily Voyna and Paige Werner finished first in the 200 yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:01.53. In the 200 yard Freestyle Relay, Maeley Nefzger, Katerina Kovarik, Emily Voyna and Julia Alberts finished first with a time of 1:46.95. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the team of Paige Werner, Katerina Kovarik, Maeley Nefzger and Julia Alberts finished first with a time of 4:02.41.
In individual events, Emily voyna took first place in the 200 ear freestyle, finishing in 2:13.45, while Kiana Folkedahl finished second with a time of 2:19.03. In the 200 yard Individual Medley, Maeley Nefzger took second with a time of 2:41.13. In the 50 yard freestyle, Katerina Kovarik took second place with a time of 27.01 seconds. In the 100 yard butterfly, Margaret Rhodes finished first with a time of 1:05.23. In the 100 yard freestyle relay, Katerina Kovarik finished second with a time of 59.41 seconds. In the 500 yard freestyle, Paige Werner finished first with a time of 6:01.38, while teammate Julia Alberts finished second with a time of 6:05.34. In the 100 yard backstroke, Margaret Rhodes finished first with a time of 1:09.31, while Kiana Folkedahl finished second with a time of 1:16.82. Finally, Decorah's Ella Hermeier won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.88, while Decorah's Mia Smedsrud finished second with a time of 1:21.64.
Decorah now has the next two weeks as time to prepare for the postseason. IGHSAU Regional Diving will be held Thursday, November 5th at Dubuque Hempstead High School, while the Regional Swimming competition will take place Saturday, November 7th--also at Hempstead High School.
