Viking girls wrestling team does well at State Meet

12 Decorah Viking wrestlers took part in the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Girls State Tournament this weekend at the Xtream Arena in Coralville.

The Vikings did well, including crowning a state champion at 145 pounds--Naomi Simon.  Also placing at the state tournament were Anya Lovstuen, who finished 6th at 113 pounds, Maia Foster, who finished 7th at 195 pounds, and Jane Murphy, who finished 8th at 170 pounds.

Over 440 girls took part in the state tournament--a sign that girls wrestling has become very popular in Iowa.

Decorah wrestlers at the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Girls State Tournament:

113 pounds: Rorie Wiedow won by fall at 1:39; lost by fall at 0:15; won by fall at 3:03; lost by fall at 1:09.
113 pounds: Anya Lovstuen won by fall at 4:42; won by fall at 5:51; won a 7-3 decision;lost by fall at 1:01; and lost by fall at 1:09 to finish in 6th place.
120 pounds: Corinna Timm lost by fall at 5:17; won by fall at 0:30; lost by fall at 5:48.
126 pounds: Isabel Ihde won by fall at 4:35; lost by fall at 3:20; won by fall at 2:21; lost by fall at 3:38.
132 pounds: Madison Heim lost by fall at 0:46; lost by fall at 4:45.
138 pounds: Lauren Myli lost by fall at 3:11; won a 7-3 decision; lost by fall at 5:49.
145 pounds: Naomi Simon won by fall at 3:19/ won by fall at 1:37; won by fall at 2:28; won by fall at 4:35 to finish in first place.
160 pounds: Chloe Sabin lost by fall at 3:07; won by fall at 1:08; lost by fall at 1:50.
170 pounds: Camielle Wiedow won by fall at 2:45, lost a 5-3 decision.
170 pounds: Jane Murphy lost by fall at 3:16, won by fall at 1:25; lost by fall at 0:37 and lost by fall a 1:53 to finish 8th.
195 pounds: Riley Wilson won by fall at 2:55, won by fall at 4:53, lost by fall at 3:03, won by fall at 2:42 and lost by fall at 1:34.
195 pounds: Maia Foster won by fall at 1:45, lost by fall at 3:18, won by fall at 1:50, lost by fall at 0:57 and won by fall at 0:23 to finish seventh.
