Decorah Viking girls basketball team drops a nonconference match with Denver

A third quarter scoring surge by the Denver Cyclones turned a close game into a Decorah loss on the road Tuesday night.

Decorah and Denver were tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter and Denver led by just a basket, 25-23, heading into the locker room at halftime.  Decorah came back to tie the game at 28-28, but Denver then outscored Decorah 12-1 the rest of the quarter.  Decorah came back late to threaten, but lost by eight points, 59-51.

"This was another good test for us to see what areas we have improved upon and what things still need improvement," said head coach Shannon Quandahl. 

Decorah again was led by Bryar Duwe, who had 19 points, and Emma Nierengarten, who had 13 points.  Five other Vikings scored.

Decorah is now 8-4 on the season, whlle Denver is now 9-4.  Decorah will travel to New Hampton on Friday before hosting Dyersville Beckman on Saturday.
