Viking boys swim team finishes first at six-team tournament in Cedar Falls

The Decorah Viking boys swim team finished first Saturday at the Tro-Hawk Invitational held in Cedar Falls.

Decorah had five first place finishes and two second place finishes, compiling 311 points.  Vinton-Shellsburg finished second with 274 points, followed by Newton with 230 points, Spencer with 176 points, Waterloo with 145 points and Keokuk with 77 points.

The Decorah 200 yard medley relay team of Drew Chamberlain, Isaac Knaack, Gus Grimstad and Ryan Lubahn started the meet by finishing second in the event with a time of 1:45.97.  Vinton Shellsburg finished one second ahead of the Vikings.

in the 200 yard freestyle, Decorah had the first and second place finishers.  Drew Chamberlain finished first with a time of 1:57.80, followed by teammate Dominic Bigalk, who finished in 2:08.51. 

Decorah swimmer Gus Grimstad then won the third and fifth events of the meet, winning the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.15, then came back to take first in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 54.28 seconds.

Chamberlain returned to swim in the seventh event of the meet, the 500 yard freestyle, winning the event with a time of 5:21.36.

The Vikings then capped off the meet by winning the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay.  Drew Chamberlain, Ryan Lubahn, Isaac Knaack and Gus Grimstad finished in 3:33.25,

Decorah will take part in its final regular season meet on Saturday, traveling to Fort Dodge on Saturday for an 8-team meet.
