Viking boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Calmar Saturday

It was a boys basketball/girls basketball doubleheader Saturday at South Winneshiek in Calmar.  The Decorah Vikings came out winners in both games.

In the girls game, the Vikings held the Warriors to just 6 points in the first half and went into the break with a commanding 38-6 lead.  The Vikings added 14 points in the second half, while South Winn had 11 points.  When the buzzer sounded, Decorah had a 52-17 victory.

Bryar Duwe was the offensive star for the Vikings, sinking five 2-point baskets, three 3-point baskets and five free throws for 24 total points.

The Decorah girls basketball team now has a record of seven wins and two losses heading into a home game Tuesday against Oelwein.

In the boys game, Decorah again piled up a large first half lead, beating South Winneshiek 36-15 at the halftime break.  South Winneshiek came back to score 30 points in the second half, but the Vikings responding with 33 points to take a 69-45 victory.

Joe Bockman was Decorah's high scorer with 16 points.

The Decorah boys are now 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Northeast Iowa Conference.  Decorah will travel to Oelwein on Tuesday.
