The Decorah Viking boys basketball team took on Waukon at home on Tuesday night, showing no effects of the holiday vacation. The Vikings beat Waukon by six points, winning 53-47.
Decorah led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter, then led 28-23 at halftime. It was a lead which would shrink to as little as two points in the second half, but the Vikings always had an answer to any point-scoring run by the Indians. Decorah led 33-31 at the end of the third quarter, 43-39 midway through the fourth quarter, and took the 53-47 victory at the buzzer.
Joe Bockman led the Vikings with 17 points. Jacob PIpho and Carson Wemark each added 8 points for Decorah. The Vikings made four 3-point baskets and were 11 of 16 on free throw attempts.
Decorah is now 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Northeast Iowa Conference. Decorah will return to action Friday night at home against Charles City.
