Decorah Viking boys swim team starts its season with a 3rd place finish at Cedar Falls

The 2020-2021 boys swimming season is underway for the Decorah Vikings.

Decorah traveled to Cedar Falls on Saturday and finished third out of five teams.  Decorah finished with 324 points, trailing Pleasant Valley and Cedar Falls, but ahead of Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Mason City.

The Vikings had one first place finish.  Gus Grimstad won the 100 butterfly by finishing in 53.33 seconds.  He was also one of three swimmers with a second place finish.  Grimstad set a new school record of 1:50.11 in the 200 freestyle.  Drew Chamberlain finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.10 seconds.  The 200 meter relay team of Grimstad, Chamberlain, Isaac Knack and Simon Kutz finished second with a time of 1:47.89.

Decorah will hold its only home swim meet of the season, the Decorah Invitational, at 5:00 p.m. Thursday in the Luther Aquatics Center.
