Decorah Viking boys wrestling squad edged by Western Dubuque

The Decorah Viking boys wrestling team went on the road to Epworth on Thursday and nearly came away with a victory against Western Dubuque, falling 39-33.

Decorah's Kolin Henry at 106 pounds started the meet with another win, a 2-0 decision against his opponent.  Decorah's Daniel See lost at 113 pounds and Decorah forfeited at 120 pounds, but Viking wrestler Lane Rolfs at 126 pounds came up with a win by fall at 3:02 of his match.

The back-and-forth meet continued with Decorah's Austin Wilkins losing by fall at 3:47 at 132 pounds, but Decorah's Brady Stille at 138 pounds winning by forfeit.  At 145 pounds, Decorah's Ben Wymer lost a 9-2 decision, but at 152 pounds, Decorah's Jackson Rolfs pinned his opponent at 4:40.  At 160 pounds, Decorah's Garrett Lovstuen won by fall at 1:55.

The next four matches were won by Western Dubuque wrestlers, however.  Decorah's Corbyn Palmer lost by fall at 1:01 at 170 pounds; Kody Bodensteiner lost at 182 pounds in a 9-3 decision; Cael Gulrud lost by fall at 1:44 at 195 pounds; and Nate Rolfs lost by fall at 0:29 at 220 pounds.

Decorah's Brandon Gulrud came back at 285 pounds to pin his opponent at 2:51, but it was not enough to give the Vikings the victory.

Decorah is now 1-2 on the season.  The Vikings will host Waukon on Thursday, December 17th, with both the boys squad and girls squad being in action, starting at 6:15 p.m.
