Decorah Viking girls cross country team finishes 14th at State Meet

The Decorah Viking girls cross country team finished 14th out of 15 teams at the Iowa High School Class 3A Cross Country Championship at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings were led by #1 runner Rebecca Anderson, who finished in 5th place individually, with a time of 19:05.5.  The other six Viking runners finished in a range from 62nd place to 86th place.  Senior Leila Johnson finished in 21:11.1, good for 62nd place; senior Sam See finished 74th with a time of 21:41.9; sophomore Madison Tollefson finished 77th with a time of 21:47.7; senior Taryn Sanderman finished 82nd with a time of 22:03.5; junior Abby Halverson finished 84th with a time of 22:13.8; and junior Kryia Atwell finished 86th with a time of 22:20.2.

Four out of the seven Decorah runners will return next year--Rebecca Anderson, Madison Tollefson, Abby Halverson and Kryia Atwell.

This year's squad continued the success of past Decorah Viking girls cross country teams, extending the streak of State Meet appearances to 15 years in a row.
