Former Luther College men's tennis head coach Richard Leake has been inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Leake taught in the Luther College business department from 1975 to 2011 and retired with professor emeritus of management status.
During his tenure, he was also the head men's tennis coach from 1975-83 and 1985-2001. He led the Norse to 11 Iowa Conference championships that included a string of eight consecutive titles from 1988-1995. He coached eight Iowa Conference MVPs, one three-time NCAA III All-American, 56 conference singles champions and 53 conference doubles champions. Twelve times he was selected Iowa Conference Coach of the Year and completed his career with a dual meet record of 270-209. During one stretch, Luther was unbeaten for 65 consecutive IIAC matches that dated from April 1987 to April 1999.
He also coached one year of women's tennis (1984-85) when Hall of Fame coach Su Oertell '72 was on academic leave. That year, the Norse won the conference title, posted a record of 18-9 and he was named IIAC Coach of the Year.
In 2013 he was elected into the Iowa Tennis Association Hall of Fame.
