Decorah girls swim team finishes second at Dubuque Hempstead Invitational

The Decorah Viking girls swim team is getting in good shape for the upcoming state tournament season.  The Vikings continue to do well against bigger high schools, finishing second out of four teams Saturday at the Dubuque Hempstead Invitational, losing to Bettendorf, but beating Dubuque Wahlert and Dubuque Senior HS.

"We had many in-season personal best times," said Viking head coach Allie Bachelder.  "The girls are racing as a team and it is fun to watch them work together," she added.

Decorah's Julia Alberts finished second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.06.  Paige Werner was third in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.08 seconds.  Two Vikings placed in the 100 yard butterfly, with Emily Voyna winning the event with a time of 1:01.26 and Margaret Rhodes finishing third with a time of 1:01.39.  Paige Werner finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.76 seconds.  Margaret Rhodes won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:28.70.  The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Emily Voyna, Julia Alberts, Maeley Nefzger and Paige Werner finished second in the 200 yard relay with a time of 1:45.24.  Finally, the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Emily Voyna, Julia Alberts, Katerina Kovarik and Paige Werner finished second with a time of 3:50.48.
