The Decorah Vikings' football game at Waterloo East was not determined by the final minutes of its game, unlike the first three games of the season.  Instead the Vikings scored touchdowns on six consecutive possessions, winning 45-8 to go 4-0 on the season.

The Vikings won the coin toss but elected to kick off to the Trojans.  After Waterloo East went three and out, Decorah got the football on its own 33 yard line and began to march down the field.  However, a long run by Cael Luzum was brought back because of a penalty, the Vikings failed to convert on a 4th down and 4 and Waterloo East took over the football.  The Trojans went three and out and Decorah had the football again.  That led to another long drive, this one finding the end zone when Briggs Duwe hit Brody Young on a 5-yard pass, making it 7-0 Decorah with just 12 seconds left in the first quarter.

The second quarter turned into a high-scoring period for Decorah.  Waterloo East fumbled the football on a punt deep in its own territory and the Vikings converted the mistake into seven points when Cael Luzum ran into the end zone from three yards out, giving the Vikings a 14-0 lead.

Another Trojan mistake--a failed fake punt--gave the Vikings the ball at the Waterloo East 38 yard line and Luzum scored his second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run, making it 21-0 Decorah in the closing seconds of the first half.

But Decorah wasn't done scoring.  The Vikings got the football with less than a minute left in the half.  Briggs Duwe found Joseph Bockman over the middle and 59 yards later, Bockman was in the end zone and the Vikings had a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Vikings scored twice in the third quarter--on an 11-yard run by Duwe and on Bockman's second touchdown pass reception of the night, a 67-yard touchdown--to make the score 42-0 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Decorah was able to play many substitutes to give them experience.  Waterloo scored a late touchdown and 2-point conversion, but Brody Young hit a 25-yard field goal and the Vikings walked off the field with a 45-8 victory.

The Vikings had 381 yards of total offense Friday night, compared to 178 yards by Waterloo East.  The Vikings were also helped by two Trojan fumbles and seven Trojan penalties.

Decorah is now 4-0 on the season and will head to Charles City next Friday night before hosting home games on successive Fridays against Waverly-Shell Rock and Western Dubuque.
