It's not uncommon for the Decorah girls swim team to compete against larger high schools.  On Tuesday the Vikings traveled to Cedar Falls for a triangular meet and came away with a victory over Dubuque Wahlert.

Decorah beat Wahlert, 109 to 76, but lost to Cedar Falls, 112 to 74.  "The girls did an outstanding job in the pool...they finished every race with grit and came from behind with a huge victory," said head coach said head coach Allie Bachelder.  She added, "I couldn't be more proud of how our team raced and came together as a united team!"

The Vikings were led by diver Brinley Krivachek, who had 217.60 points to win the diving competition, and by Margaret Rhodes, who won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.82.

The win over Dubuque Wahlert was a team achievement, however, with many second and third place finishes.

In the 299 yard freestyle, Katerina Kovarik finished 2nd with a time of 2:05.46.  Paige Werner was 2nd and Maeley Nefzger was 3rd in the 50 yard freestyle.  Emily Voyna was runner-up in the 100 yard butterflu, with a time of 1:03.57.  Paige Werner finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 58.92 seconds.

Two relay teams from Decorah gave the Vikings the closing points to beat Wahlert.  The team of Emily Voyna, Hannah Franzen, Maeley Nefzger and Paige Werner took second place in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.79, while the team of Emily Voyna, Julia Alberts, Katerina Kovarik and Paige Werner took second in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:53.18.

The Viking girls swim team is off now until Saturday, September 26th.
