For the third week in a row, the Decorah Viking football team scored late in the 4th quarter to earn a victory.  This Friday night, the victim was the West Delaware Hawks, who were ranked #8 in the state in Class 3A heading into Friday night's game at Viking Stadium.

The Vikings began the evening by stopping West Delaware's first drive then marched 43 yards down the field where the drive stalled. Brody Young posted the first points of the evening with a 35-yard field goal with 3:19 remaining in the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter of play saw the Vikings score on a 12-yard pass by Briggs Duwe to Joseph Bockman, giving the Vikings a 10-0 lead. West Delaware answered with their own scoring drive but failed to convert the PAT. West Delaware followed up with another touchdown and converted a 2-point attempt to make the score 14-10 in favor of West Delaware going into halftime.

West Delaware's big offensive line seemed to be wearing down the Vikings as the Hawks continued to put points on the board in the third quarter.  Jared Voss scrambled 64 yards for a touchdown with 8:59 remaining in the third quarter to make the score 21-10. The Vikings had a couple of 4 and outs but managed to stop West Delaware with 5:47 left to go in the quarter. Briggs Duwe connected with Kody Bodensteiner for a 42-yard touchdown closing the gap to 21-18 but West Delaware's Wyatt Voelker responded with a 9-yard TD, making the score 27-18 heading into the final quarter.

The 4th quarter saw the Vikings fight back with a 2-yard touchdown run by Cael Luzum, bringing the score to 27-24. The Vikings got the football back with a little over three minutes left on the clock, then marched down the field and scored with 1:19 remaining in the game.  An 11-yard pass from Briggs Duwe to Cael Luzum gave the Vikings the lead, 31-27. The Viking defense held West Delaware in the closing seconds of the game, giving Decorah their third come-from-behind win of the season.

Decorah is now 3-0 on the season and will head to Waterloo next Friday to take on East High School.
