Viking girls cross country team does well Tuesday in Waverly

The 2020 Dick Pollitt Go-Hawk Classic in Waverly on Tuesday afternoon didn't use the typical format for cross country meets.  Runners were divided into 9th and 10th graders and 11th and 12th graders.

Rebecca Anderson won the race involving the younger runners.  She finished in 19:14.7--33 seconds ahead of the second place runner.  Other Viking 9th or 10th graders in the top 40 were Madison Tollefson 20th with a time of 22:28.3; Mairi Sessions 21st with a time of 22:33.1; Annalise Skrade 22nd with a time of 22:33.1; Brynn Storhoff 28th with a time to 23:13.3; Kathryn Keyy 29th with a time of 23:25.9; and Danielle Losen 36th with a time of 23:47.3.

Among the 11th and 12th graders, Leila Johnson was the highest Decorah finisher.  She crossed the finish line in 21:56.4, good for 17th place.  Samanatha See finished 22nd with a time of 22:24.8; Abby Halverson was 27th with a time of 22:41.0; Taryn Sanderman also crossed the finish line in 22:41.0, good for 28th; Mya Numedahl finished 36th with a time of 23:14.7; Abby Bolson was 38th with a time of 23:17.9; Kryia Atwell finished 40th with a time of 23:31.8 and Morgan Brauer finished 41st with a time of 23:34.9.

Luther College has cancelled its high school cross country meet for this coming weekend, so the next meet for the Vikings will be Thursday, September 17th, at Cedar Falls.
