Viking cross country teams sweep the Oelwein Invitational

Tuesday was a good day for the Decorah Viking boys and girls cross country teams, with the varsity and junior varsity girls and boys squads all finishing in first place.

The Decorah junior varsity girls squad had an impressive finish, with the seven runners all finishing in the top 11 places.  Kryia Atwell was 2nd, Taryn Sanderman finished 3rd, Annalise Skrade finished 6th, Madison Tollefson finished 7th, Abby Bolson was 8th, Brynn Storhoff finished 9th and Fiona Buresh came in 11th.  Their times ranged from 20:32.9 for Kyria to 22:21 for Fiona.  Six other Viking runners finished in the top 20.

The Viking varsity girls squad had 87 points to take first place, seven points ahead of Jesup.  Rebecca Anderson was the meet medalist with a time of 17:59.1.  Leila Johnson finished 6th with a time of 19:34.6; Samantha See was 18th with a time of 20:24.8; Abby Halverson finished 31st with a time of 21:09.3; Mairi Sessions was 35th with a time of 21:21.4; Morgan Brauer finished 42nd with a time of 21:44.5; and Mya Numedahl was 43rd with a time of 21:51.0.

The Decorah junior varsity boys team had the most impressive meet of the four squads, with all seven runners finishing in the top ten.  Hogan Smith was the meet medalist with a time of 17:27.2.  Tate Schissel finished third with a time of 17:46.2; Jacob Magner came in 4th with a time of 17:49.3; Cade Olson was the 5th place finisher with a time of 18:06.5; August Witt was the 7th place finisher with a time of 18:14.3; Henry Weis finished 8th with a time of 18:22.0; and Landan Folkedahl was 9th with a time of 18.:22.7.  Bradyn Hook finished 10th for the Vikings--but wasn't among Decorah's top ten finishers, even through he ran the course in 18:22.8--one-tenth of a second slower than Landan Folkedahl.  Drew Berns, James Groux, Tyler Irwin and David Olson also were top 20 finishers.

The Viking varsity boys cross country team finished with 32 points--40 points ahead of second place West Delaware.  Brady Hogan was the meet medalists with a time of 15:13.5.  Noah Lovelace finished 5th with a time of 16:20.8; Bennet Schutte was 7th with a time of 16:28.0; Izaak Eichinger was 8th with a time of 16:32.9; Larson Shockey finished 11th with a time of 16:38.0; Arlo Hayes was 18th with a time of 16:52.3; and Adrian Huang finished 36th with a time of 17:27.4.
