Editor's note: What is the official phrase for what we've been experiencing? "In these unprecedented times" is probably the phrase used most often. Because of "these unprecedented times," we missed recognizing the Decorah Viking baseball and softball players recognized as being all-conference NEIC:
Softball first team: Avery Shelton pitched and played infield positions. She earned her second conference honors.
Baseball first team: Cael Luzum earned his second recognition. He went 5-0 with a 0.76 earned run average for the Vikings. Tyler Thompson earned his first recognition by hitting .390 and driving in 14 runs.
Softball second team: Three Viking players were recognized. Ella Kittelson, the Vikings' catcher, drove in 13 runs in 52 at bats. Ellie Luzum hit two home runs and drove in 12 runs. Isabel Ihde had a .404 batting average. Kittelson and Luzum were all-NEIC for the second time, while it was the first recognition for Ihde.
Baseball second team: Three Viking baseball players were recognized--Kody Bodensteiner, Seth Shindelar and Keenan Tyler. Bodensteiner hit .389 and had 14 stolen bases. Shindelar pitched and played the outfield, recording 25 strikeouts as a pitcher. Tyler led the team with 15 runs batted in.
Honorable mentions: Softball players Bryar Duwe and Emma Johnson were both named honorable mention, while baseball players Briggs Duwe and Brody Young were similarly recognized.
In all, 13 members of the Viking softball and baseball team earned all-conference awards.
