The Decorah Viking baseball team swept a doubleheader against Charles City on July 7th, but ten days later in a first round playoff game, the result was much different. A 7-0 shutout by Charles City ended Decorah's season Friday night, although the Vikings finish with a very good record of 12 wins and 5 losses.
Charles City got on the scoreboard right away, scoring twice in the top of the 1st inning against Viking pitcher Seth Shindelar. Charles City's pitcher, Tait Arndt, was in good form Friday night, allowing just one hit in five innings, while walking five and striking out three. Decorah got a runner as far as third base, but could not score. Charles City added three runs in the 3rd inning and two runs in the 7th inning for the 7-0 final score.
"The end result of this single game does not change the many things that went well for our kids being able to have a chance to play, especially our three seniors," said head coach Adam Riley.
