A four-run 4th inning was the difference as the Decorah Viking softball team beat New Hampton 5-3 in Decorah Tuesday night.

Decorah scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but New Hampton tied the score with a run in the top of the 4th inning.  That set the stage for the Vikings to push across four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a lead they never relinquished.  New Hampton scored single runs in the 6th and 7th innings, but the Vikings took the 5-3 victory.

Decorah is now 8-5 on the season.  The Vikings will head to Jackson Junction to take on Turkey Valley Thursday in a non-conference junior varsity/varsity doubleheader.  They will end their regular season next Monday by heading to Cresco to play a doubleheader with Crestwood.

Class 4A Regional softball play will begin Wednesday, July 16th, with Waverly-Shell Rock playing Mason City at Waverly.  The winner of that game will head to Decorah on Saturday, July 18th, for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Vikings.
