After the first game of Friday night's baseball doubleheader in Waverly between the Decorah Vikings and the Waverly-Shell Rock GoHawks, the two teams were tied for first place.  But Waverly took the second game of the doubleheader and Decorah is now still one game behind the GoHawks.

Decorah trailed 3-1 in the first game heading into the 6th inning, but the Vikings scored four times in the 6th and twice in the 7th.  Head coach Adam Riley said it was a victory earned through "good team baseball."

Cael Luzum took the victory, giving up just one earned run on five hits in five and 2/3rd innings pitched.

In the second game, Waverly scored four times in the bottom of the 1st inning and never trailed, although Decorah came back to score once in the 6th inning and three times in the 7th inning.  But three more Waverly runs in the bottom of the 6th gave Waverly a 7-1 lead after six innings.

Cael Luzum was the hitting star for the Vikings in the second game, going 2-for-4 and driving in three runs.

Decorah will close its conference schedule on Tuesday night, hosting Charles City in a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m. in Decorah.
