The Decorah Viking baseball team hung in with Waterloo Columbus on Wednesday--until the bottom of the 4th inning.  The Sailors pushed across nine runs to turn a 7-5 lead into a 16-5 lead and a loss for Decorah.

Decorah's Cai Brevig gave up five runs in the first inning, but pitched to contact during the 2nd and 3rd innings.  "Cai had a very good night on the mound, creating some outs by continuing to make pitches in some tough situations," said head coach Adam Riley.

Things fell apart for the Vikings in the bottom of the 4th, however, when Brevig and reliever Parker Hubka struggled to keep Waterloo Columbus off the bases.  Five Decorah errors did not help.

Tyler Thompson and Briggs Duwe led the Vikings offensively, with Thompson getting two hits and Duwe getting two RBIs.

Decorah is now 7-3 overall and 7-1 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, trailing Waverly-Shell Rock by one game.  The Vikings will head to Waverly on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m.
