The Decorah Viking baseball team got off to a poor start against Waukon at home on Tuesday night, losing the first game of a doubleheader, 14-4.
"We simply did not do a good enough job of getting ahead in the count with our pitching and were not competitive enough in a number of our at bats," said Viking head coach Adam Riley. Four Decorah pitchers gave up the 14 runs, but they were not helped by five Viking errors and five walks.
Decorah turned it around in the nightcap, however, winning a well-pitched and well-played 7-0 decision.
Cael Luzum and James Marx were the stars for Decorah, combining to pitch a no-hitter. Offensively, Tyler Thompson went for 3-for-4, with three RBIs. Decorah had a total of eight timely hits, leading to seven runs batted in.
The Viking baseball team heads to Waterloo on Wednesday afternoon for a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader which begins at 3:00 p.m.
