Viking boys basketball team improves to 18-4, beats Vinton-Shellsburg as playoffs begin

Nine members of the Decorah Viking boys basketball team scored on Monday night in Center Point as the Vikings won their opening round playoff match against Vinton-Shellsburg, 67 to 43.

Matthew Franzen led the Vikings with 16 points, Charlie Robinson added 11 points, Patrick Bockman had 9 points and Logan Halverson and Andrew Magner each added 8 points.

The Vikings led 23-11 at the end of the first quarter, pushed their lead to 19 points at halftime, led by 21 points at the end of the third quarter and finished ahead by 24 points.

With the win, Decorah is now 18-4 on the season.  The Vikings will face Center Point-Urbana at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in Center Point.  The winner of that game will play next Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
