It was close, but neither the Decorah Viking boys bowling squad nor the girls squad qualified Tuesday for the State Tournament.
The boys team missed by just 66 pins over 15 games. Juniors Luke Iverson (456) and Jackson Rollins (443) led the Vikings. Keagan Einck had a 383; Breydon Johnson had a 353; Justin Redenius bowled a 340; and Tyler Thompson had a 260.
"The program is growing and we will get to State one of these years," said head coach Keith Bruening.
The girls team had 2,391 points. They were led by Lexie Hauber with a 351; Katherine Bruening with a 318; and Audrey Casterton with a 301. Alexis Svestka bowled a 292; Madeline Putnam had a 279; and Grace Gerleman had a 257.
"We made some great strides, this year, (finishing as) co-champions on the regular season," said Bruening.
