Decorah High School sent three wrestlers to the District Meet at New Hampton on Saturday, with Jackson Rolfs finishing in first place at 145 pounds and qualifying for a spot at the State Wrestling Meet, but Brady Stille at 132 pounds and Kyzer Engen at 152 pounds both finishing in third place and just missing a trip to Des Moines.
Rolfs had the number one seed entering Districts, but had to wait to see who he would wrestle. That turned out to be Cayden Howland of Iowa Falls-Alden, with a 34-4 record, but Rolfs took care of Howland, winning by a fall at 5:57 of the match.
Stille and Engen both won their opening matches Saturday, but were unable to beat their #2 ranked opponents. Stille beat Iowa Falls-Alden wrestler Mason Kent by fall at 5:09 into his first match, but lost by fall at 4:41 of his second match to Chase Thoms of Crestwood. Engen won a 6-0 decision in his opening match against Carson Hartz of Waterloo Columbus, but lost to Riley Burke from Iowa Falls-Alden in his second match.
The State Wrestling Tournament begins Thursday in Des Moines, with Jackson Rolfs wrestling Thursday afternoon against Panora wrestler Emry Colby, who has a record of 38 wins and 6 losses.
