Only two points separated Decorah and Waukon at halftime of the girls basketball game in Waukon on Tuesday night, but Waukon came out of the locker room and dominated the second half, en route to a 53-42 victory over Decorah.
The Vikings were held to just 15 points in the second half, while Waukon gradually built up a lead that reached as high as 12 points.
"We have to continue moving forward and be prepared for our last conference game against Charles City (at home Friday night)," said head coach Shannon Quandahl after the game.
Bryar Duwe led Decorah with 19 points and Emma Nierengarten added 15 points, but the rest of the team had a combined total of only 8 points.
Decorah is now 4-7 in the NEIC and 10-9 overall. The Vikings will host 2-9 Charles City at 6:15 Friday evening, then will enter regional competition next week.
