Viking girls bowling team wins the North Central Iowa Bowling Conference championship

The Decorah Viking girls and boys bowling teams took part Saturday at the 11-team North Central Iowa Conference Bowling Tournament in Waterloo—and the girls team came home as conference champions.

The tournament at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo brought together  Charles City, Decorah, Denver, Forest City, North Iowa, Oelwein, Sumner, Tripoli, Waterloo Columbus, Waverly and Waukon.
 
The girls team included Katherine Bruening, Audrey Casterton, Lexie Hauber, Annika Lensch, Maddie Putnam and Alexis Sveska.  The team took on Waukon first and won, 2-0.  A strong Charles City team was next, with the first game a win for the Comets, but Decorah came back to win the next two games, finishing with five strikes in the final frames of the deciding game, to beat Charles City.  Forest City was the final set of games, with Decorah again winning 2 to 1 after an initial loss.  The victory gave the conference championship to the Viking girls.

The boys team included Luke Iverson, Breydon Johnson, Keagen Einck, Justin Redenius, Jackson Rollins and Tyler Thompson.  The Viking boys won their first two games against Oelwein and advanced to #1 seed Charles City.  The boys held their own, but were defeated 2 to 0, finishing fourth out of 11 teams.
