Decorah swimmers win the NSISC Conference Meet

The Decorah Viking boys swim team members are conference champions.
The Vikings headed to Coe College on Saturday morning and came home with the NCISC Conference Championship, beating seven other teams. Decorah had 466 points, with Grinnell second with 354 points and Boone third with 351 points, followed by Newton, Vinton-Shellsburg, Williamsburg, Oskaloosa and Centerville.
Out of the eleven events, Decorah had four first place finishes, two second place finishes and five third place finishes
In relay events, the 200 yard medley team of Drew Chamberlain, Jackson Penny, Gus Grimstad and Cole Huebner took first with a time of 1:43.55. The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Cole Huebner, Bradyn Hook, Jackson Penny and Gus Grimstad took home gold with their finish in 3:25.75. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Isaac Dixon, Bradyn Hook, Caleb Huebner and Ryan Lubahn finished third with a time of 1:37.57.
In individual events, Jackson Penny won the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:06.88 and Gus Grimstad won the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in 55.05 seconds. Drew Chamberlain took third in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.73; Bradyn Hook finished third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.57 seconds; Cole Huebner was third in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.38 seconds; Gus Grimstad finished second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 53.10 seconds, Drew Chamberlain finished second in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing in 5:16.70; and Jackson Penny finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.50.
Head coach Laura Storlie called the event "a really fun meet," adding, "we swam great."
The Viking boys swim team will now head to Linn-Mar High School on Saturday, hoping to get qualifiers for the State Swim Meet, which will be held Saturday, February 15th at the University of Iowa.
