Decorah swimmers beat Vinton-Shellsburg

The Decorah Viking boys swim team traveled to Vinton on Tuesday and turned in a dominating performance against Vinton-Shellsburg at the Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School pool.

Decorah finished first in eight out of eleven events, with first and second place finishes in six of the eleven events.

The Vikings won all three relay events.  The team of Drew Chamberlain, Jackson Penny, Gus Grimstad and Cole Huebner finished first in the 160 yard medley relay, finishing in 1:22.37 (the meet took place in a 20-yard pool, so times are different than usual times).  The 160-yard freestyle relay was won by Isaac Dixon, Ryan Lubahn, Andrew Heine and Cole Huebner from Decorah, with a time of 1:17.37.  The Decorah team of Cole Huebner, Bradyn Hook, Jackson Penny and Gus Grimstad wrapped up the meet with a first place finish of 2:48.08 in the 320-yard freestyle relay.

Individual events won by the Vikings were the 200-yard freestyle, with Drew Chamberlain finishing in 2:00.39; The 160-yard individual medley, won by Jackson Penny in 1:45.14; the 100-yard butterfly, won by Gus Grimstad with a time of 56.03 seconds; the 500-yard freestyle, won by Drew Chamberlain with a time of 5:16.95; and the 100-yard backstroke, won by Gus Grimstad with a time of 56.77 seconds.

The Viking boys swim team will return to action this weekend, traveling to Waterloo to take part in the Waterloo West Invitational.
