Three seniors on last spring's Decorah girls tennis team have been honored for achieving Academic All-State status.
In order to be eligible to receive the Academic All-State award from the Iowa Tennis Coaches Association, players must be a senior; must have competed in at least half of their team's varsity tennis matches during their senior year as well as competed in District/Regional competition (petitioning possible in case of injury); and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale or a minimum GPA of 3.6 and have competed in State Tennis Competition.
Allie Groux, Josie Kleckner and Mara Frieden received the honors. Said their coach, Larry Berland, "You could not ask for better role models on your team than Allie, Josie and Mara. They were very coachable, dedicated to improve each day in practice and lead their teammates by positive example. Their outstanding accomplishments whether on the courts or in the classroom met the criteria necessary perfectly in order to be considered for the Academic All-State award."
