Viking boys basketball team comes up short against Waverly

The Decorah Viking boys basketball team and the Waverly-Shell Rock boys basketball team were never separated by more than six points in their game Friday night in Waverly.
Waverly led during the first quarter, but the Vikings put on a scoring burst and led by five points with a few minutes left in the first half. That's when Waverly rallied to come within one point, 25-24, at halftime.
Waverly led by one point, 37-36, at the end of the third quarter, but Decorah took the lead, 46-44 with a few minutes left in the game. Decorah was outscored 8-3 the rest of the way, giving the Go Hawks the 53-49 victory.
Charlie Robinson led the Vikings with 14 points, with Patrick Bockman adding 11 points and Matthew Franzen adding 10 points.
The Decorah boys basketball team is 1-2 overall on the season and 0-1 in the NEIC. The Vikings will return to action Tuesday night in Oelwein.
