The Decorah Viking sophomore football team defeated the Comets of Charles City 63-0 Friday night.
"The guys played hard and executed the game plan well," stated Coach Jesse Halweg. The Viking offense was led by good performances by offensive linemen Joseph Hjelle, Kendall McCain, Landan Folkedahl, Garrick Smith, Gavin Stortz and Thomas Ostlie. The Vikings amassed 208 yards rushing on the ground and passed for 141 yards through the air. Jacob Pipho also scored by returning a kick for a 75 yard touchdown.
Defensively, the Vikings did a good job stopping the Comets' triple option attack. The Vikings were led by Dylan Muhlbauer, who recorded 5 assisted tackles. Turnovers also played a major role throughout the game as Kody Bodensteiner recovered a fumble to go along with his 2 solo tackles and 5 assisted tackles. Joseph Bockman, Jacob Pipho and Kyle Renken each had an interception to turn the ball over to the offense as well. Austin Wilkins was also able to strip the ball from the Comets and recover the fumble as well.
The sophomore football team will play West Delaware Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Decorah.
