The Decorah Viking volleyball team got off to a quick start Saturday at its own volleyball tournament, sweeping Postville, Elkader Central, Clayton Ridge and South Winneshiek.  That put the Vikings into the championship pool, but Decorah ran out of gas and got swept by Wapsie Valley and by Mabel-Canton to finish third.

Decorah beat Postville 21-11, 21-18
Decorah beat Central Elkader 21-10, 21014
Decorah beat Clayton Ridge 21-15, 21-10
Decorah beat South Winn 21-15, 21-10
Decorah lost to Mabel Canton 13-21, 17-21
Decorah lost to Wapsie Valley 18-21, 13-21

Said Head Coach Gina Holthaus, "I know I've said it before, but we really are getting better, we are battling teams that have been successful for several years. Our fundamentals are getting better each day, we just need to string a couple more runs together here and there in those tight matches and continue to believe in ourselves."

Thursday night will be Senior Night at Decorah HS, with the team's seven seniors getting recognized.
