This year the Iowa Girls High School Swim Meet will have all teams competing in the same brackets. So the Decorah High School girls swim team has been preparing for the State Meet by facing Iowa's largest high schools.
That trend continued over the weekend when Decorah took part in the Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School Cougar Invitational. The Vikings finished sixth out of eight teams--ahead of both Des Moines Roosevelt High School and Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School.
Once again, Decorah senior Emma Bachelder led the Vikings. Emma finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.35 seconds and second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.79 seconds.
The Vikings also scored points with their relay teams. Bachelder was joined by first year Julia Alberts, first year Paige Werner and sophomore Emily Voyna for a fourth place finish in the 400 yard relay, finishing in 3:52.61. And in the 200 yard medley relay, the team of sophomore Margaret Rhodes, junior Ella Hermeier, first year Julia Alberts and first year Maeley Mefzger finished sixth with a time of 2:02.60.
The Vikings will travel to Cedar Falls on Saturday, then will host their final home meet of the season on October 10th against Vinton-Shellsburg.
