Viking boys finish in the top third at the Engel Classic in Cedar Falls

The Decorah Viking boys cross country team continues to do well against tough competition.

The Vikings traveled to Cedar Falls on Thursday evening and finished 7th out of 21 teams.  Decorah had 179 points, behind Cedar Falls, Urbandale, Western Dubuque, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Cedar Rapids Washington and Dubuque Hempstead, but ahead of 14 other teams, including teams from Ankeny, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Mason City, Cedar Rapids Xavier and Dubuque Senior HS.

The Vikings got a big boost from junior Brady Hogan, whose finish in 16:55 was 4th best out of the entire field of runners.  Senior Spencer Peterson finished 23rd with a time of 17:41; junior Noah Lovelace was 45th with a time of 18:12; senior Pat Bockman finished 51st with a time of 18:15; sophomore Izaak Eichinger finished 60th with a time of 18:28; and senior Willem Hawley finished 61st with a time of 18:31.

Head Coach Brad Johansen praised his squad afterward for their "excellent runs on a challenging course."  "The team continues to work towards their full potential," said Johansen.

Decorah will next run on Tuesday afternoon at Waukon.
