The Decorah cross country teams faced a lot of tough competition Saturday morning at the All-American Race at Luther College. Decorah's varsity placed 8th out of 28 talented teams, with a team score of 223.
Junior Brady Hogan had a phenomenal race, finishing 2nd out of 193 runners, with a lightning fast 5K time of 16:15. Coming in second for Decorah was senior Spencer Peterson at 17:30, good for 41st place. Close behind were Decorah runners Noah Lovelace (17:34), and Pat Bockman (17:50), placing 45th and 54th respectively. Rounding out the varsity squad were seniors Willem Hawley in 81st place (18:15.5), Jojo Seo in 82nd place (18:15.9), and Sam Robinson in 97th place at 18:28.
In the JV race, Decorah placed 4th out of 23 teams. Sophomore Izaak Eichinger was Decorah's top runner (17:48). Eichinger's lights-out performance earned him a 6th place finish out of a field of 442 runners.
Head coach Brad Johansen says, "It was an outstanding day for Decorah. 2/3 of the team had season best or lifetime best times, and being that this was the 3rd meet in 12 days, performances like that are impressive. There are great things ahead for this team."
"I would like to publicly thank all the volunteers from Decorah that made the meet a success. Luther was an outstanding host again this year. Great event for everyone," says Coach Johansen.
The Vikings will travel to Cedar Falls on Thursday for another large meet with tough competition.
