PREVIEW: Decorah Viking football team hosts Cedar Rapids Xavier Friday night

Cedar Rapids Xavier scored seven times in last year's game against Decorah

The saying is, "in order to be the best you have to beat the best."  The Decorah Viking football team is certainly playing the best high school football teams this fall.

One week after facing Waukon, the number one ranked team in Class 2A, the Vikings will host the number two ranked team in Class 3A, the Cedar Rapids Xavier Knights.  Xavier has won 27 games in a row, including last Friday night's 35-0 home victory over Iowa City Regina.  The Saints forced three turnovers and didn't allow Regina to score.

Last year the Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter against Xavier in Cedar Rapids.  But that was as good as it got for the Vikings as the Knights scored 45 unanswered points.

The schedule doesn't get any more friendly next Friday for the Vikings--they will host the #1-ranked team in Class 3A, Western Dubuque.

decorahsports.com will have photos and details of Friday night's game following its conclusion.
