Decorah girls cross country team finishes second to Center Point-Urbana in Oelwein Tuesday

It was a battle on Tuesday in Oelwein at the Hickory Grove Golf Course, but the Decorah Viking cross country team came up short, finishing second to Center Point-Urbana by a score of 68 to 73.  Denver finished third with 75 points, followed by Waukon with 93 points.  14 squads ran in the meet.

Decorah's runners were all tightly bunched, with the top five finishing from 11th to 20th.  Senior Meg Sessions led the Vikings with a time of 21:15; junior Leila Johnson finished 12th with a time of 21:28; senior Annette Leschensky finished 14th with a time of 21:43; senior Kalea Oftedahl finished 16th with a time of 22:06; and senior Shayla Betts was 20th with a time of 22:24.  Decorah's sixth runner, junior Fiona Buresh, finished 35th with a time of 23:02 and senior Brooke Courtney was close behind in 38th place with a time of 23:05.

The Viking girls cross country team will run again next Tuesday in Waverly.
