The Decorah Vikings rode the arms of Jace Johnson and Cael Luzum to a 3-0 victory over Center Point/Urbana Friday night in the opening round of postseason playoffs.  Jace Johnson pitched five innings, giving up no runs and just three hits, with four strikeouts and one walk, while Cael Luzum pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

The Vikings got all the offense they needed with one run in the top of the 4th inning, but added two more runs in the top of the 6th.  Keenan Tyler was the hitting star of the night, driving in two runs and also scoring a run.  The Vikings also drew eight walks from CPU pitchers.

Said head coach Adam Riley following the game, "Postseason games can be won and lost on mistakes.  We played mistake-free baseball on defense and even in our team offensive approach at the plate.  The team approach even expanded more tonight, thanks to the support of the large crowd of friends and family that made the trip and cheered throughout the evening--and to the parents who helped with everything to keep the guys cool and hydrated on the hottest night of the summer.  Everyone's support and efforts were greatly appreciated by the team!"

Decorah is now 16-16 on the season.  It will face a big challenge for its next game, taking on #1-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier.  Cedar Rapids Xavier pounded Iowa Falls Alden, 16-1, Friday night in a game called after four Innings.  Decorah will face Xavier at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Xavier in Cedar Rapids.
