The Decorah Viking baseball team got two strong pitching performances Tuesday night en route to a split of a doubleheader at home against Waverly-Shell Rock.

Decorah's Jace Johnson gave up two runs in five innings in the opener of the doubleheader, leaving with the game tied at 2-2.  The Go Hawks pushed across a run in the top of the 6th inning and held on to take a 3-2 win.

Drake Shelton was 2-for-3 in the first game and drove in one of the two runs scored by Decorah.

In the second game, Cael Luzum gave up just one earned run and left the mound after six innings with Decorah leading 13-4.  Waverly scored twice in the 7th, but Decorah earned the victory, 13-6.

Seth Shindelar was 2-for-2 in the second game, while Ryan Schneberger, Keenan Tyler and Drake Shelton each had two RBIs.

Head Coach Adam Riley praised Johnson and Luzum for scattering hits and making good pitches.  He also noted, "We have made some great strides offensively in our approach at the plate."

Decorah is now 7-8 in the Northeast Iowa Conference and 10-12 overall.  The Vikings will host Oelwein on Friday night.
