The Charles City Comets baseball team took a 7-0 lead in the first game of its doubleheader at Decorah on Wednesday night, but the rest of the night belonged to the Vikings.

Decorah couldn't pull out the first game, losing 8-1, but the Vikings put on a strong showing in the nightcap to earn an 8-6 victory.

In the first game, Jace Johnson had an atypical night, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in six innings.  Keenan Tyler drove in Decorah's only run of the game in the 4th inning, as Charles City pitcher Elliott Sinwell gave up just four hits in seven innings.

But the second game was different.  Ryan Schneberger gave up just two earned runs in 5 1/3rd innings and Kailer McCabe, Drake Shelton, Keenan Tyler, Ryan Schneberger and Seth Shindelar each had at least one run batted in for the Vikings.

Said Head Coach Adam Riley, "After a very poor first four innings of baseball in game one tonight, our effort both defensively and offensively was much better as we played more innings on the night.  Ryan Schneberger did an outstanding job on the mound in game 2 of pitching to contact and we played consistent defense behind him.  Our offensive approach in game 2 was excellent throughout the game as well."

Decorah is now 5-7 in the NEIC and 8-11 overall.  The Vikings will travel to Waukon on Friday night.
