Decorah HS golfer Jay Fjelstul named first team All-State

The Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association has named Decorah High School senior-to-be Jay Fjelstul 1st Team All-State in boys golf for Class 3A.

Fjelstul had the sixth best scoring average in the state this spring--38.85 for nine holes.  The top ten players in the state receive the 1st Team All-State honor.  Last year, his sophomore season, Fjelstul was named 2nd Team All-State for Class 3A.

The honor caps a productive spring for Jay:
-in eight meets he was medalist seven times and runner-up medalist once
-in the Decorah Viking Invitational at Oneota G. & C.C. he was runner-up medalist with a 74 in the 6-team field
-in the West Delaware Invitational at Manchester he was the tournament medalist with a 74 in the 9-team field
-he won the Northeast Iowa Conference championship by 3 strokes with an even par 70 as the tournament medalist. This earned him All-Conference honors for the third time, the third year in a row.
-he placed 4th in the Sectional meet at Charles City with an 81, advancing to Districts
-he placed 4th in the District meet at Manchester with a 77.
