Pitching and defense struggled for the Decorah Viking baseball team on Monday night at home against the New Hampton Chickasaws and the result was a doubleheader loss.

Decorah led 6-5 entering the fifth inning of the first game, but New Hampton pushed across eight runs--just three of them earned runs--in the top of the 5th and rolled to a 13-8 victory.  Caleb Keck took the loss for the Vikings.  Drake Shelton had two hits and three RBIs for Decorah.

Decorah managed just four runs in the nightcap, as New Hampton rolled to a 7-2 lead after three and a half innings, en route to a 9-4 victory.  Keenan Tyler gave up seven runs in 3 1/3 innings.  The Vikings managed only five hits on offense.

Said head coach Adam Riley, "While we have shown flashes of the kind of team we can be, more hustle and pride in paying attention to details is needed from everyone in our dugout."

The Vikings will host Waterloo East on Wednesday and will host Waukon at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
