Decorah boys golf team earns runner-up title at NEIC title

The Decorah Viking boys golf team shot their best 18-hole round of the year on Monday at the Waukon Country Club to take second place at the NEIC Conference.
Decorah's Jay Fjelstul was the NEIC individual champion with a 36/34=70 on the par 70 course. Jared Holthaus of Decorah came in 7th place with a 41/40=81. Both golfers received all-conference honors. Sam Jermier shot a 46/42=88; Blake Donlon had a 45/47=92; Jackson Rolfs also shot a 92; and Mason Olsgard had a 49/46=95.
Decorah finished with a 331 team score, 17 strokes in back of Waverly, but ahead of Charles City (332), New Hampton (343), Waukon (346), Oelwein (376) and Cresco (414).
Said head coach Rich Gaard, "This was our best effort of the season, I was really proud of their effort today!"
