The Decorah Viking girls tennis team registered identical 6-0 victories against Osage and Independence at Regional competition on the Luther College tennis courts.

Osage could win only one game in the opening round against Decorah.  Decorah's Mara Frieden shut out her opponent, 6-0 and 6-0, at #1 singles.  Payton Schutte at #6 singles also blanked her opponent.  Soleil Smith at #3 singles, Cady Peterson at #4 singles and Morgan Brauer at #5 singles also registered victories.  Alli Groux found herself facing a charged-up opponent at #2 singles, but changed to a different gear and won the tiebreaker.

Decorah also had success against Independence, although several of the matches were closer.  Mara Frieden, Alli Groux, Soleil Smith, Cady Peterson and Morgan Brauer all won in straight sets, but Payton Schutte at #6 singles had to go to a tiebreaker to win.

Usually the first team to win five individual matches is declared the winner, but in both meets Saturday, the sixth match was in its last game and so that game continued to its end.

Decorah now qualifies for the Regional finals on Saturday, but the Vikings' opponent has yet to be determined.
